LESSER POLAND

Tatras, Kraków, and wooden churches.

Poland's most mountainous region. The Tatras, Pieniny, Gorce, Ojców National Park — and beside them Kraków, ancient capitals, and the oldest universities.

Polish Mountains and Roots

Lesser Poland is the region where Polish statehood has its roots. Kraków, the ancient capital, delights with Wawel, Kazimierz, and museums tucked into side streets.

To the south stretch the Tatras — the only mountains in Poland with an alpine character. Beside them are the Pieniny with the Dunajec gorge, the Gorce, and the Low Beskids, the calmest range in the country.

UNESCO and Wood

Wieliczka and Bochnia are two historic salt mines, both inscribed on the UNESCO list. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is the oldest pilgrimage park in Poland, woven into the landscape.

Lesser Poland's wooden churches — in Sękowa, Binarowa, Powroźnik — are masterpieces of carpentry where you can feel the spirit of the old Beskid villages.
