Weekend in Roztocze — A 3-Day Plan

Roztocze is a land of gentle hills, loess ravines, and pine forests. Here is a 3-day plan to see the most beautiful corners of the region.

Roztocze is one of the most beautiful and most underrated places in Poland. A land of gentle hills, loess ravines, pine forests, and wooden mills. Here is a weekend plan.

Day 1 — Zamość and Zwierzyniec

Start with Zamość — the pearl of the Renaissance, one of the few cities in Poland designed entirely by a single architect. It is worth seeing the Great Market Square, the Town Hall, and the Zamość Cathedral. The city is inscribed on the UNESCO list.

In the afternoon, drive to Zwierzyniec — a picturesque town on the Wieprz river. It is worth seeing the church on the water, the Echo Ponds, and the Zwierzyniec Brewery. In the evening — dinner at one of the local restaurants.

Day 2 — Roztocze National Park

In the morning, go to Roztocze National Park — one of the most beautiful parks in Poland. It is worth seeing the Szumy cascades on the Tanew — picturesque rock steps on the Tanew river, and the Polish Konik horse stud — small horses descended from the tarpan.

In the afternoon, take a walk through the Solska Forest — one of the largest forest complexes in Poland. In the evening — dinner in Zwierzyniec or in one of the surrounding villages.

Day 3 — Krasnobród and Susiec

The last day is a walk through Krasnobród — a spa with a Marian sanctuary and a chapel on the water. It is worth seeing the sanctuary, the spa park, and the rural museum.

In the afternoon, drive to Susiec — a village in the middle of Roztocze, famous for its Szumy cascades and the Nad Tanwią Reserve. It is worth walking along the paths and listening to the sound of water. In the evening, return home.

Where to Sleep?

The best bases are Zamość, Zwierzyniec, and Krasnobród — all have extensive accommodation. It is worth choosing a guesthouse or agritourism farm in the countryside to feel the atmosphere of the region.

What to Eat?

Roztocze cuisine is a mix of Polish, Ukrainian, and Jewish traditions. It is worth trying pierogi with bryndza, cebularze, Roztocze trout, and krupnik. In Zamość and Zwierzyniec there are many regional restaurants.

Practical Tips

Roztocze is a tourist region — in the summer season (July-August) it is crowded. It is worth going off-season — in spring or autumn, when the region is calmer. A car is almost essential — public transport is limited.
