When to Visit the Baltic to Avoid the Crowds

July and August are peak season. But the Baltic has other faces too — quieter, cheaper, and often more beautiful.

The Polish coast is associated with crowds, windbreaks, and queues at fish fry shops. But that is just one face of the Baltic — the one most tourists see. Outside July and August, the sea shows a completely different face.

September — Polish Golden Autumn

September is the best month for a trip to the sea. The water is still warm (up to 19°C), the air is crisp, and the crowds disappear after the first week. Accommodation prices drop by 30–50%. The beaches empty, and the light becomes golden and soft.

It is also the time when fishermen return with full cutters — fresh fish in smokehouses tastes completely different than in the middle of the season.

June — Before the Season

Early June is the second-best moment. Schools have not yet finished, so the beaches are dominated by retirees, families with small children, and foreign tourists. The water can be cooler (14–16°C), but for many that is even an advantage.

It is worth remembering that in June the days are longest — dusk falls only around 10:00 PM, giving plenty of time for walks.

May and October — For the Tough

May and October are months for those who seek solitude and don't mind cooler weather. The beaches are almost empty, hotels are cheap, and the landscape is raw and beautiful. It is a time for long walks in a jacket, reading books in cafés with a view of the sea, and contemplation.

Avoid July and August

If you can — avoid July and August. That is the time of the biggest crowds, the highest prices, and the worst quality of services. If you must go in the middle of the season, choose smaller towns (Dębki, Karwia, Chłapowo) instead of popular resorts (Sopot, Kołobrzeg, Międzyzdroje).
