A German extermination camp operating in 1942–1943 in the forests near Małkinia. Today the Treblinka Memorial: a symbolic cemetery, stones and a monument.

Treblinka was an extermination camp where, according to museum figures, around 800,000 people were murdered in 1942–1943 — mostly Jews from the ghettos of occupied Poland. The camp itself was demolished and the ground levelled. That is why you will not see barracks or gas chambers here: you will see forest and memory.

What to see

The centre is the monument and the field of symbolic stones — each commemorating a town from which people were deported. The site of the Treblinka I labour camp is nearby. Walk the avenue and read the names; that is what gives this place meaning.

How to visit

Visiting is individual. Silence is expected; no smoking, no eating, no loud behaviour. Allow about two to three hours, including the walk along the avenue and time at the monument.

Getting there

The site lies near the village of Treblinka, in the Małkinia Górna municipality. Take a train to Małkinia, then a taxi or car — local transport is limited.
