A German concentration camp operating in 1939–1945, east of Gdańsk. Today the Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo — with preserved barracks and a gas chamber.
Stutthof was the first concentration camp the Germans established on Polish soil — it was created as early as 1939. Around 110,000 prisoners from many countries passed through it; according to museum figures about 65,000 died.
What to see
Barracks, the gas chamber, the crematorium and the camp gate survive. The museum runs permanent exhibitions on the camp’s history and the fate of prisoners, including the 1945 evacuation.
How to visit
Visits are individual or guided — for school groups a guide is recommended. Silence is expected on the site. Allow about two to four hours.
