A German concentration camp operating in 1940–1945 near Rogoźnica in Lower Silesia. Today the Gross-Rosen Museum — with the preserved quarry and camp gate.
Gross-Rosen was established in 1940 next to a granite quarry. Prisoners worked in the quarry and in armaments plants; according to museum figures about 40,000 people died here. The camp had an extensive network of subcamps across Lower Silesia and the Sudetes.
What to see
The quarry speaks most strongly — the prisoners’ workplace, today bare and empty. The gate, fragments of buildings and a museum with an exhibition on the camp and its subcamps also survive.
How to visit
Individual or guided visits. Silence is expected on site. Allow about two to three hours; the area is large, so wear comfortable shoes.
