Weekend in Kraków — A 2-Day Plan

Kraków is one of the most beautiful cities in Poland — full of history, culture, and flavors. Here is a 2-day plan to see the most important places and feel the atmosphere of the city.

Kraków is one of the most beautiful cities in Poland — the former capital, city of kings and artists. In two days, you can see the most important places and feel the atmosphere of this extraordinary city. Here is a weekend plan.

Day 1 — Old Town and Kazimierz

Start at the Main Market Square — the largest medieval market square in Europe. It is worth seeing St. Mary's Basilica with the altar by Veit Stoss, the Cloth Hall, and the Town Hall Tower. After sightseeing, have breakfast at one of Kraków's cafés — it is worth trying the Kraków obwarzanek and Kraków-style coffee.

In the afternoon, go to Wawel — the hill with the royal castle and cathedral. It is worth seeing the Arcaded Courtyard, Wawel Cathedral, and the Wawel Dragon. In the evening, walk through Kazimierz — the former Jewish quarter, now full of atmospheric pubs and galleries.

Day 2 — Kazimierz and Podgórze

In the morning, return to Kazimierz and visit the Old Synagogue, the Remuh Synagogue, and the Remuh Cemetery. This is one of the most important Jewish heritage sites in Poland. It is also worth seeing Schindler's Factory in Podgórze — a museum dedicated to the history of World War II.

In the afternoon, take a walk through the Planty — the park surrounding the Old Town. In the evening — dinner at one of Kraków's restaurants. It is worth trying Kraków żurek, pierogi with cabbage and mushrooms, and duck with apples.

Where to Sleep?

The best bases are the Old Town and Kazimierz — both districts have extensive accommodation and are close to the main attractions. It is worth choosing a hotel or apartment in the center to have everything within walking distance.

What to Eat?

Kraków cuisine is a mix of burgher and rural traditions. It is worth trying the obwarzanek, żurek in bread, makowiec, Kraków sausage, and Podhale bryndza. There are many regional restaurants and milk bars in Kraków.

Practical Tips

Kraków is a tourist city — in season (May-September) it is crowded, and prices are high. It is worth going off-season — in spring or autumn, when the city is calmer. It is also worth sightseeing with a guide — the history of Kraków is fascinating but difficult to understand without context.
